The Acer Nitro 5 hits the top of our list for being a category leader and a casual gamer’s dream.  We love that it’s got fantastic performance at a price that’s relatively affordable.

BUILD:  Bold “gamer inspired” colors and angular edges adorn the matte-black plastic. It has a chunky, futuristic aesthetic that gives this budget machine a premium look. One thing we love, love, love about the chassis is you can easily add more memory and storage. (This unit even comes with its very own Protective Sleeve.)

DISPLAY:  Screen quality on the 15.6-inch display is immersive with Full HD and IPS. You can see high levels of detail from explosion debris in games like Anthem

SPECS:  This is the AN515-42-R5ED configuration. It’s the base model that replaces Intel and NVIDIA components for AMD hardware. You get an AMD Ryzen 5 2500U APU (equivalent to an Intel i5-8250U CPU). An 8GB DDR4 SDRAM, a quick 1TB MHD (mechanical hard drive) spinning at fast 7200RPM. And dedicated AMD Radeon RX 560X Graphics with 4GB of vRAM. Anthem can run at 44FPS on medium graphic settings.

KEYBOARD:  The red-backlit, chiclet-style membrane keyboard is responsive with good feel. But touchpad feedback is mushy.

PORTS:  An abundance of ports includes one USB Type-C port, two USB 3.0 ports, a USB 2.0 port, HDMI 2.0 slot with HDCP support, Ethernet, a Kensington lock slot, and 802.11ac Wi-Fi.

BATTERY LIFE:  The 48Whr battery has about a 6-hour runtime (gaming time will vary).

Pros:

  • upgradable components
  • beautiful 1920 x 1080 resolution display
  • powerful hardware

Cons:

  • touchpad doesn’t inspire confidence

2.     Dell G3 15

Last update on 2021-11-16 at 23:17 / Affiliate links / Images from Amazon Product Advertising API

In terms of sheer value, the Dell G3 15 makes the list for delivering excellent performance and good gaming utilities.

BUILD:  It’s an accessible alternative to Alienware ditching shouty gamer-boy aesthetics for a subtle matte grey finish and blue accents. And though it’s dominated by inexpensive plastic, it doesn’t feel flimsy.

DISPLAY:  The cost of being an affordable gaming laptop is a dim 15.6-inch display, however. It’s bright so long as the laptop is plugged in. And while features like a 1920 x 1080 resolution and IPS are fitting for gaming. Colors are un-impressive with equally dull-looking images.

SPECS:  Component overlap with the more expensive G5 series includes an Intel Core i5-8300H CPU. An 8GB SDRAM, 1TB MHD and a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Ti with 4GB GDDR5 vRAM. That’s good for nearly 50FPS on demanding games like Tomb Raider.

KEYBOARD:  There’s a hint of flex in the keyboard deck. And we recommend keeping the backlight on to see the blue lettering on the keys. They have a moderate amount of travel with tactile feedback. The touchpad has a textured surface and captures Windows 10 gestures well with an albeit soft, spongy feel.

PORTS:  Gaming laptops come with a good selection of ports. The G3 15 offers one USB Type-C port, two USB Type-A ports, an SD card reader, a full-size HDMI port, Ethernet, a combo headphone/mic jack, 802.11ac Wifi and Bluetooth.

BATTERY LIFE:  The runtime on the 4-cell, 56Whr battery is around 6-hours.

Pros:

  • Alienware Command Center
  • solid performance
  • responsive input devices

Cons:

  • lackluster display
  • cheap feeling plastic
  • soft feeling keys and touchpad

3.     MSI GF63 Thin

If you’re on a budget, the MSI GF63 Thin might be one of the best gaming laptops under 700 dollars. It makes the thin-and-light gaming category more accessible while delivering the goods for some impressive gaming.

BUILD:  Sitting just below the higher-end GS65 Stealth. It sports a near carbon copy, classy aesthetic with an identical 82% screen-to-body ratio and a chassis designed with a mixture of plastic and metal.

DISPLAY:  Although you get a 15.6-inch FHD display with IPS and a 60Hz refresh rate. It’s not as bright and colorful as you’d expect. Low contrast quality makes dark scenes in a game like Battlefield 1 difficult to make out. However, the scenes are sharp and crisp.

SPECS:  A seriously powerful collection of midrange components includes an H-series CPU. 8GB DDR4 SDRAM, a 256GB NVMe SSD, and NVIDIA GTX 1650 Max-Q graphics with 8GB of vRAM. Older games play at 1080p at 60FPS. While titles like Shadow of the Tomb Raider get around 47FPS.

KEYBOARD:  Placement of the SteelSeries keyboard is identical to the GS65 Stealth with backlighting and Anti-Ghost key. Feedback is excellent with comfortable key travel. And while you might consider the Clickpad small, it’s responsive.

PORTS:  You get a wide range of ports like a USB Type-C port (doesn’t support Thunderbolt 3), three USB 3.2 ports, Ethernet, an HDMI port, and headphone/mic jack combo.

BATTERY LIFE:  The downside to a small gaming laptop is a small 3 cell 51Whr battery that’s only good for around 7-hours un-plugged.

Pros:

  • Intel core i5-9300H CPU
  • more than enough power for casual gaming
  • SteelSeries keyboard

Cons:

  • small battery with not the greatest endurance for this segment

Last update on 2021-11-16 at 23:37 / Affiliate links / Images from Amazon Product Advertising API

The Asus TUF FX505DD is the cheapest variant of the TUF FX505 line-up. Designed for durability, it’s an entry-level gaming rig aimed at casual gamers.

BUILD:  The body is a throwback to the un-comfortable compromise gaming laptops used to be. What do we mean? Well, while still not built to look pretty, the TUF series got a re-design in 2019 maintaining the sturdy military-grade plastic shell. This time with a sleek gunmetal metallic build incorporating brushed lines that add to a premium look. The mileage you get, however, is limited by its 4.85-pound weight; that’s a good amount of heft!

DISPLAY:  Graphics are impressive on the 15.6-inch Full HD screen. It can handle games like Forza 4 reasonably well with crisp and clear detail, if you lock things into 60FPS.

SPECS:  Intel hardware is swapped for AMD components. The result is an AMD Ryzen 5 APU, 8GB RAM, a snappy 128GB SSD, and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphics. You can play E-Sport games. Games from 2015 and earlier. And even newer titles like Forza Horizon 4 at 30FPS on medium settings.

KEYBOARD:  Travel on the RGB backlit keyboard is moderately deep with soft feedback. In contrast, the Precision-enabled Clickpad is firmer with louder feedback. But it’s not that accurate.

PORTS:  Two USB 3.2 ports, one USB 2.0 port, Ethernet, HDMI, a combo audio jack and 802.11ac Wi-Fi with Bluetooth 5 for wireless connectivity.

BATTERY LIFE:  Considering the robust hardware, a 4-hours runtime un-plugged from the 48Whr battery isn’t bad.

Pros:

  • new sleeker chassis
  • an AMD Quad-Core 3550H APU
  • good collection of ports

Cons:

  • the chassis is compromised by its weight

If you want to play some interesting titles without spending a fortune. The Lenovo IdeaPad 700 is definitely one to consider. It can handle most games you can throw at it, which adds value to a great laptop.

BUILD:  Since Lenovo is a brand primarily focused on business, the look is un-surprisingly understated as most of the company’s gaming series. The black compact chassis is smooth with rounded corners.

DISPLAY:  Your games are going to look good on the 15.6-inch display! You get Full HD and IPS for good contrast and crisp pictures with wide viewing angles (discrete graphics makes a huge difference here).

SPECS:  Unfortunately, this unit comes with the older Intel Core i5-6300HQ CPU from the Skylake generation. But there’s enough good stuff here for lots of gaming possibilities like a 12GB DDR4 SDRAM and a 1TB MHD. And with a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M card doing the heavy lifting, aided by 4GB of vRAM. You’ll even be able to handle a few higher end games with the settings turned down of course.

KEYBOARD:  Typing on the backlit full-size keyboard is a comfortable experience. The touchpad features integrated left and right mouse buttons which are equally as responsive as the mouse.

PORTS:  Around the sides of the laptop you’ll find one USB 2.0 port, two USB 3.0 ports, an SD card reader, HDMI, Ethernet port, 802.11ac and Bluetooth.

BATTERY LIFE:  The batter endurance of only 4-hours isn’t anything to write home about. And that’s without gaming.

Pros:

  • 15.6-inch FHD display with IPS
  • dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M graphics
  • backlit keyboard

Cons:

  • not much of a battery life

6.     Acer Aspire 5 Slim

Acer Aspire 5 Slim Laptop, 15.6" Full HD IPS Display, AMD Ryzen 7 3700U, RX Vega 10 Graphics, 8GB DDR4, 512GB SSD, Backlit Keyboard, Windows 10 Home, A515-43-R6DE
  • Amd Ryzen 7 3700U dual-core processor (Up to 4.0 GHz) | 8GB DDR4 Memory | 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD

  • 1 - USB 3.1 Gen 1 port, 2 - USB 2.0 Ports & 1 - HDMI Port with HDCP support
  • 802. 11AC Wi-Fi | Backlit keyboard | up to 7.5 hours battery life
  • Windows 10 Home

Last update on 2021-11-16 at 23:37 / Affiliate links / Images from Amazon Product Advertising API

Acer’s mainstream laptops are impossibly good deals. But is the Aspire 5 Slim right for you when it comes to gaming at this level?

BUILD:  Sporting a tapered, aluminum build. The chassis is compact, slim and lightweight cutting a fairly stylish appearance. Even with a little give in the keyboard deck. Build quality is fine as long as you’re not expecting the durability of a premium laptop.

DISPLAY:  The metal lid opens a full 180-degrees to reveal a 15.6-inch screen with Full HD resolution and IPS. Color reproduction is pretty good with equally good off-angle viewing. But the highest brightness level is on the dim side.

SPECS:  The A515-43-R6DE AMD is Acer’s middle-of-the-road configuration. But it delivers more performance for your money than you might expect. You get a powerful Ryzen 7 3700U APU (equivalent to an Intel Core i5-1035G4 CPU), 8GB of RAM, a massive 512GB SSD, and integrated AMD Radeon RX Vega 10 Graphics.

KEYBOARD:  Even though the backlit keyboard has enough travel to prevent bottoming out, it feels mushy. But the Windows Precision touchpad works well with a built-in fingerprint reader for security.

PORTS:  There’s plenty of ports around the sides, like a USB Type-C port (it’s not Thunderbolt 3), two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0 port, HMDI with HDCP support, Ethernet, a combo headphone mic jack and 802.11ac Wi-Fi. Unfortunately, none of the ports are an SD card reader.

BATTERY LIFE:  With all this performance, runtime is only about 6-hours.

Pros:

  • slim, build
  • capable hardware
  • backlit keyboard

Cons:

  • dim display
  • no SD card slot

Want a real performance bargain for gaming? The Dell Inspiron 15 5000 (i5584) knows how to hold its own in this price category.

BUILD:  One step below the XPS line-up. The Inspiron series is a midrange line divided into the budget Inspiron 3000, the mid-range 5000, and the higher-end 7000 families. The 5000 family is largely made of a matte industrial gray plastic with above average chassis rigidity and overall excellent construction quality.

DISPLAY:  The lid feels comparatively more flexible than the chassis. But the hinges are strong enough to hold up the 15.6-inch FHD touchscreen. Brightness and color reproduction are mediocre. But contrast is exceptionally good for the price.

SPECS:  It’s high-end configuration within the 5000 family proves that just because you’re getting something affordable doesn’t mean you have to make a bunch of trade-offs. This unit comes with an 8th gen Intel Quad-Core i5-8250U CPU, 16GB SDRAM, 512GB PCIe SSD, plus a 1TB MHD. And integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics.

KEYBOARD:  The deck has a soft-touch coating that feels comfortable against your wrists. The keys, however, are the same color as the chassis, which makes the lettering difficult to read. Even with backlight turned on. Feedback is slightly soft, but the touchpad has smooth cursor movement. The integrated mouse buttons have a shallow, spongy feel.

PORTS:  One USB 2.0 port, an SD card reader, HDMI, Ethernet, combo headphone/mic jack, 802.11ac Wifi and Bluetooth 4.1.

BATTERY LIFE:  The 42Whr battery has a terrible runtime of only about 3-hours.

Pros:

  • great collection of hardware for some games
  • full HD touchscreen
  • high chassis quality for the price

Cons:

  • budget no-frills exterior
  • poor battery endurance

  • [ Professionally Upgraded ]* 8GB 2666MHz DDR4 Memory for full-power multitasking; 256GB Solid State Drive. A flash-based SSD has no moving parts, resulting in faster start-up times and data access, no noise, and reduced heat production and power draw on the battery.

The HP Pavilion 15t is a versatile, budget-focused, mid-range laptop that can be equipped in a myriad of gamer-worthy configurations. Which is why it often hits our list of budget gaming laptops.

BUILD:  You’ll notice that since it’s a mid-range machine, it’s not overtly flashy like the Omen series or the Pavilion Gaming laptops that came before that. But the plastic chassis has an attractive two-tone design none-the-less.

DISPLAY:  The 15.6-inch display is supported by an HD (1366 x 768) resolution and multi-touch support. As with TN panels, color reproduction is poor and no IPS equals limited viewing angles. But lower response times are better for gaming. The touchscreen takes full advantage of the Windows 10 operating system to allow for easy finger-sensitive navigation.

SPECS:  And just what do you get under the hood? How about a 10th generation Ice Lake Intel Core i5-1035G1 CPU. 8GB DDR4 SDRAM, a huge 512GB SSD and integrated UHD Graphics G1. You can expect good frame rates from a catalogue of games.

KEYBOARD:  And the keyboard isn’t half bad for the price. It offers a decent amount of travel with a satisfying click. Ditto the touchpad, which is smooth and responsive to use.

PORTS:  The option list for connections includes one USB Type-C port, two USB Type-A ports, HDMI, and a headphone/mic jack. For wireless connectivity you get 802.11ac Wifi and Bluetooth 4.2.

BATTERY LIFE:  Unplugged performance from the 3-cell, 41 Whr battery is around 8-hours when you’re not gaming.

Pros:

  • Ice Lake components
  • massive 512GB SSD
  • responsive input devices
  • good collection of ports

Cons:

  • weak HD touchscreen

Best Gaming Laptops under 700 Buying Guide

PC gaming is bigger than ever with titles like Fortnite and Overwatch reaching frenzied levels of popularity. That’s why it makes sense to get the best gaming laptop with the right hardware to get the most value relative to performance so you can focus on playing your favorite titles.

$700 is the final vestige for budget gaming laptops and they’ve come a long way in recent years with new technologies that have a direct impact on your ability to game. While you can find multi-purpose laptops that can do the trick (we certainly have some on our list). You’ll also see some designed specifically for the demands of gaming.

Below is a breakdown of the key components you should focus on to ensure you choose the best gaming laptop that’ll add the most value to your gaming experience.

GRAPHICS CARD

The graphics card is the single most important component that makes that makes any gaming laptop worth having. It’s responsible for bringing the visuals of all the games you’ll play to full life. But within this budget are also laptops with newer integrated graphics, like Intel’s HD 620 and AMD’s R5 and R7 cards. While admittedly not as strong as their dedicated brothers, they have the horsepower to play a catalogue of older AAA titles.

Integrated GPUs have enough graphical rendering power to rival even low-end NVIDIA and AMD dedicated mobile cards from generations ago, which makes them terrific bargains. But the top-tier dedicated graphics cards to look out for in this price segment is the 1050 to 1050Ti cards from NVIDIA’S GeForce GTX 10-series. You can expect a 30% increase from the previous generation 960MX card.

CPU

Next up is the CPU, which is the heart of any laptop. It works in conjunction with GPU to run applications like games. It’s the piece of hardware most responsible for interpreting requests made from a game’s resources, not to mention peripherals like external monitors.

A budget of $700 opens you up to your choice of gaming laptop systems boasting powerful Intel Core i5 CPUs and AMD equivalents. Both are good at delivering nearly high-end performance.

NOTE: If you’ll also be using your gaming laptop for work-related activities like video editing. We recommend choosing a laptop with one of the newer CPUs from Intel. And as much RAM as your budget will allow. And don’t forget dedicated graphics. Something like the Acer Nitro 5

RAM

8GB is the minimum acceptable amount of RAM in a $700 gaming laptop. In a computer system, RAM and the CPU work together to produce results like playable frame rates. So, in general, the more RAM you have the more work your laptop can do. 8GB of RAM is just enough system memory to load games quickly and run them smoothly.

STORAGE

For pure gaming fun, a single solid-state drive will benefit your overall experience. But if you’ll also be using your laptop for school or storing movies, music and photos. We recommend prioritizing gaming laptops that offer a hybrid storage solution. They’re built to take advantage of the fast speed of an SSD and the large capacity of an MHD (mechanical hard drive)

DISPLAY

Shopping the best gaming laptops under 700 means you shouldn’t have to put up with a cheap 1366 x 768-pixel TN panel. At this tier, you can easily get a laptop with a Full HD 1080p display and IPS technology for wider viewing angles. Lucky for you, there are quite a few sub-700-dollar gaming laptops that offer a Full HD screen to choose from. However, it must be noted that TN panels offer a faster response time, which can make all the difference between winning and losing.

SCREEN SIZE

The bigger the display, the heavier the laptop. Duh, right? During our research, the gaming laptops that offered the best specs had a 15.6-inch screen. We came across a few 17-inch options but choosing them meant settling for older hardware. Fortunately, 15-inchers are the top choice for most gamers for the reasonably immersive viewing experience they offer without being as heavy as bigger gaming laptops.

KEYBOARD

Want to know the one game-ry feature that’ll really add to your overall experience? Shopping for the best gaming laptops under 700 dollars means there are a lot more laptops to choose from that offer backlighting. This handy-dandy accessory is instrumental in helping you make-out the keys you’re pressing as you frag aliens if you ever find yourself playing in a darkly lit environment.

AUDIO QUALITY

We didn’t cover this within our review. But you’ll find names like Bang & Olufsen and Harmon Kardon often affixed to the best gaming laptops under 700 dollars. The sound from these speakers are usually clearer and louder than what you get from run-of-the-mill laptop speakers with little to no distortion at high volumes. But just in case the gaming laptop you choose doesn’t come with the kind of thunderously sweet sound you want to hear from your game. We recommend investing in a pair of quality ear-defenders or a headset.

Best Gaming Laptops under 700 Brands

ACER

This is one of the largest manufacturers in the world and their laptops are extremely popular among budget users.  Acer continues to offer one of the best overall selections around, with mainstream and gaming options catering to every budget.  You also get Chromebooks that are available from just $150 as well as 2 in 1s.  But they also produce high-end gaming laptops like the Predator series and premium notebooks.  You get what you pay for, and Acer laptops are usually the best value for the money.  Their most popular line is the E series and Aspire notebooks like the amazing Aspire 7.  Support for their notebooks leaves plenty to be desired, though.

DELL

This is one of the most consistently forward-thinking laptop brands!  Dell has some of the slimmest notebooks you could possibly want.  The most popular line is Inspiron, like the Dell Inspiron 15 5000 (i5584) on our list.  But the XPS line is one of the best laptops to buy and gets the notoriety of doing everything surprisingly well with the latest screen resolutions, connections, premium materials, all topped-off with a solid battery life.  The company’s innovation in Ultrabooks yields a wonderful army of ultraportable laptops with powerful specs.  You can even find 2 in 1s and Chromebooks under this moniker with loads of style and hardware.  And, the after sale and technical support is worthy of so much praise.

MSI

The brand is well-known for delivering the best high-end gaming laptops — More than 95% of the notebooks get treated to high-end graphics cards as well as the latest, powerful hardware.  If you’re on a budget MSI is not for you.  Laptops here are usually very expensive with $1000 being the median price range.  But if you get what you pay for, then we have to say that the quality is unbelievable.  Like Dell, they’re consistently innovative with offerings like the eye-tracking sensorunique gaming keyboards, and amazing designs to attract gamers.  They even offer laptops made exclusively for power users!  But it’s not just about powerful graphics cards and CPUs.  Options are limited:  the company struggles to breakout of its familiar designs.  And the tech support is laughable; you don’t even get 24/7 support.

HP

One of the oldest electronics brands, HP has very strong reviews, stellar designs, impressive innovations, top-notch value and selection.  All of which has helped it go head to head with the best laptop brands in the world.  The latest laptops take design cues from their contemporaries to raise standards even higher.  These notebooks are fast, powerful, and supported by a very competent customer service.  Innovations include an AMOLED version of the Spectre x360, which delivers a brighter and more vibrant display than the standard version.
