The king of the mountain for the longest Chromebook battery runtime is the HP Chromebook x360 14. Through battery endurance testing by continuous web surfing over Wi-Fi with a 150 nits of screen brightness. It was able to hold its own for nearly 13 hours.

Along with all-day long battery endurance, the HP Chromebook x360 14 is a svelte convertible. This means it can easily transform into several different modes for your convenience, thanks to its sturdy hinge holding the display in place through all its different modes, including laptop, tent and tablet. Also sturdy is the silver-aluminum chassis, which exhibits excellent build quality.

When it comes to configuration, you get an Intel Core i3-10110 CPU, 8GB of RAM and 64GB eMMC flash storage. Owing to the price is the fact that this unit comes with a backlit keyboard, which is becoming more common on premium Chromebooks.

The keyboard follows the standard Chromebook layout with a search/menu key instead of Caps Lock and browser. The brightness and volume controls are all along the top row. Other notable hardware includes Wi-Fi 6. A Full HD 1920×1080 resolution. And Bang&Olufsen speakers. It even comes with a fingerprint reader and Webcam security switch.

To hook up your peripherals, there’s a full-size HDMI port so you don’t have to fuss with adapters. On both the left and right edges, you’ll find a USB Type-C port to plug in the AC adapter. And on the right are a USB Type-A port (with a drop jaw design), an audio jack and a microSD card slot.

The Chromebook with the second longest lasting battery is the Lenovo Chromebook Duet. This one came in at just under 13 hours too. But failed to last quite as long as the HP Chromebook x360 14 G1.

Like the HP, the Chromebook Duet is also a 2-in-1. But not in the same way. Unlike the HP, it’s more of a tablet that can be transformed into clamshell mode by a detachable keyboard and a kickstand cover. This is the kind of 2-in-1 you want if you use tablet mode more often than laptop mode. But since it performs better as a tablet, the cramped keyboard is not well-suited for comfortable, heavy productivity sessions.

Weighing two pounds with a 0.7-inch thickness, the Duet has an ultraportable form factor that makes it a featherweight machine that can fit snuggly into your book bag or briefcase. The 10.1-inch display is plenty colorful. It even comes with a 64GB Broage Flash Stylus.

On top of that, the Duet is powerful enough to handle all your intensive web multitasking. Inside is a MediaTek Helio P60T Octa-Core CPU. An ARM G72 MP3 GPU. A 4GB LPDDR4X RAM. And a 128GB eMPC storage.

At the top of the tablet is where you’ll find the dual speakers and the top bezel is a 2MP front-facing camera. At the bottom you’ll find pogo pins to snap on the edge-to-edge keyboard. Due to its size, you only get one USB Type-C port. But it supports power charging, data transfer, DisplayPort and USB on the go. There’s no headphone jack. But Lenovo included a USB Type-C to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter.

3. Acer Chromebook Spin 713

The Acer Chromebook Spin 713 is our third choice for lasting nearly 12-hours on a charge before the battery drained out. It has a bigger 13.5-inch display compared to the Lenovo Chromebook Duet and its bright. The average Chromebook emits about 274 nits of brightness. Whereas the Chromebook Spin 713 is far from average at 445-nits of brightness.

Along with a bright display is a flexible design that’s MIL-STD 810G tested for impact resistant drops, extreme temperatures, moisture resistance and more. The 100% aluminum chassis is built tough to take some abuse. The flexible hinges let you convert the Spin 713 into tablet and tent mode to view movies and videos. And of course, the standard laptop mode. Rotation is smooth and the mechanism feels pleasantly sturdy.

While the Chrome OS isn’t equipped for most games, and not every Play Store app is optimized for Chrome OS. Activities that never used to be possible like Video Transcoding is possible with some Chromebook specs. Inside this particular Chromebook is an Intel Core i3-10110U CPU, a 4GB DDR4 RAM and 64GB eMMC flash memory storage.

The full-size, island-style keyboard is similar to the Lenovo Flex 5 Chromebook. And it employs the same features that have given Lenovo keyboards their renown. For ports, the Chromebook Spin 713 is equipped with the basics. On the left side is a USB-C port, USB 3.0 port, headphone jack and microSD slot. On the right is an HDMI port and a second USB-C connection so you can charge the device from either side, which is convenient.

The Asus Chromebook Detachable CM3 is a stylish and petite 2-in-1 detachable notebook with stellar battery life that comes in at a fantastic, yet just under 12-hour runtime.

A dark gray fabric swathes the exterior. Though it feels like a book, when you open the cover, you’re greeted by a keyboard and touchpad that snaps onto the tablet with magnets. Connection is maintained by pogo pins and a pair of protruding nibs slotting into the tablet to hold the slate firmly in place.

Beyond the pleasing texture, it doubles as a kickstand that can hold the tablet horizontally or vertically at almost any angle. The 2-in-1 tablet even meets U.S. MIL-STD810H standards for bumps, shock and temperature changes.

Since the keyboard is thin, you don’t get a full-blown laptop usage experience. You’ll want to use it on a solid surface where you’ll get a decent amount of travel.

The 1920×1200-pixel touchscreen display produces a far more colorful and sharper image than you might expect. The 16:10 aspect ratio is ideal for viewing content. And the kickstand behind the screen means you can angle it to a comfortable viewing position. The brightness level is equally as impressive with an average of 386 nits of brightness.

While not the most powerful Chromebook on the list, the Detachable CM3 comes with a vibrant display and convenient form factor that makes it an excellent content consumption and web browsing device that can slip easily into any bag. The versatile 2-in-1 includes a stylus in case you wanted to do some journaling.

Given that it’s a tablet, it only has two ports: a USB 2.0 Type-C and a 3.5mm headphone/mic jack combo.

All though the Google Pixelbook Go comes in fifth on the list of Chromebooks with the best battery life with an endurance run of 11 and half hours. It’s one of the most complete packages on the list, capable of covering a wide variety of computing needs.

Besides a solid battery runtime, the Pixelbook Go has an ultra-slim, lightweight chassis. Decent performance and a bright 13.3-inch display. Chromebooks are typically dim with an average brightness of 274-nits. But open the magnesium-alloy lid, and the Pixelbook is beyond average with a brightness level of 368-nits.

If you spend the bulk of your computing time online and in the cloud, the Pixelbook Go is an attractive alternative to the typical Windows laptop. Processing muscle comes courtesy of an Intel Core M3 8100y CPU. You also get 8GB of RAM and a 64GB eMMC flash drive with integrated graphics.

Google’s latest Hush keys are successful in being quiet. The trade-off is that the keys are so quiet that the satisfying clickiness we like so much is missing. There are a few custom keys dedicated to Google Assistant and a button to bring up the Google search bar.

The Google Pixelbook Go feels as premium as it looks. Adding to that is a 2.3-pound weight that makes it lighter and thinner than most 13-inch laptops. However, the small, clean design means there’s not much room for ports. There’s only one USB Type-C port and a headphone jack on the left side. And on the right is a lonely USB-C port.

6. Dell Latitude 5400 Chromebook Enterprise

Last update on 2021-11-17 at 19:56 / Affiliate links / Images from Amazon Product Advertising API

You can get the Dell Latitude 5400 as a Windows laptop or a Chromebook. As a Chromebook it shares the same battery runtime numbers with the Google Pixelbook Go at 11 and a half hours on a full charge. It’s not as sleek as the Pixelbook Go and weighs a bit more at 3.4 pounds. But its sturdy having passed 17 MIL-STD 810G tests, proving it can endure shocks, drops and extreme temperatures.

Its clamshell design won’t turn heads. But that’s likely a good thing since this is a business-oriented Chromebook. The chassis is “green” in terms of sustainability. This means it’s made with post-industrial carbon fiber, which according to Dell, includes up to 1% recycled materials.

And since it’s a business-class Chromebook, you get access to Chrome Enterprise with tools for organizations. And the great thing about not being as svelte as the Pixelbook Go is that there’s room for more ports. Opt for this machine and you get two Type-A ports, one Type-C port and a microSD card reader.

The 2400×1600 display covers a 70% sRGB color gamut making it far less visually vibrant than the screen on the Google Pixelbook. Peaking at 252 nits of brightness, it’s also not as bright as some of the other Chromebooks on the list. But the backlit keyboard is clicky, encouraging you type for hour on end with snappy, bouncy keys and a decent amount of travel. The touchpad is also speedy and responsive.

Looking for more enterprise Chromebooks? Accounting for the price tag is a seriously sleek and sturdy 13-inch device with a battery life of almost 10 hours. It even comes with a pen stylus neatly garaged out of sight for use with the touchscreen. And with the ThinkPad name, you know this is a durable and secure Chromebook.

When you open the cover, the sturdy 360-degree hinges offers options to switch modes from clamshell to tent mode. And you can even use it as a full-on tablet. It’s pretty heavy, however at 3.2 pounds. But the ThinkPad C13 Yoga Chrombook has passed 12 MIL-SPEC tests to withstand some harsh conditions.

The 13-inch display is crisp and vivid with a 1080p resolution that’s exceptionally bright, registering 281 nits of brightness. The Lenovo USI pen uses Active Capacitive technology with 2,048 levels of pressure sensitivity. And when you store it in its garage, it only takes 15 seconds for 100 minutes of use.

The island-style keys are softly backlit and clicky. Since it’s a Lenovo, it even comes with the classic red TrackPoint nestled between the B, G and H keys. It’s sensitive and accurate to use just like the touchpad.

As for security, you get a fingerprint scanner, a webcam shutter and Google’s H1 TPM security chip. It even comes with Lenovo’s ThinkSheild technology.

You get quite a few ports to connect to all your favorite peripherals, including an HDMI 2.0 port and two USB Type-C ports on the right. And a microSD card reader, 3.5mm audio port, two USB Type-A ports and another USB Type-C port on the left.

Chromebooks are popular within the educational environment because they’re easy to use and difficult to infect with viruses. The Dell Chromebook 11 (3189) impresses with a battery runtime that’s just over 9 hours, Google’s operating system and the ability to bend back into tablet and tent modes so you can easily use the touch screen.

The 11.6-inch display has a relatively low 1366×768 resolution, which is indicative of the Chromebook’s price point. Colors look more accurate and brighter than the 223-nits of brightness would suggest, however. With all the different ways you can position the screen, viewing angles are important. And the 3189 delivers with wide viewing angles from the sides, top and bottom.

The design is plain but respectable with stiff enough hinges to keep the lid in place as you bend it back into tablet, tent and clamshell modes. And when it comes to durability, according to Dell, the Chromebook 11 (3189) passed a number of MIL-SPEC tests, including those for shocks, vibrations and extreme temperatures. It even has a spill-resistant keyboard to survive the accidental spill.

Performance comes from an Intel Celeron N3060 CPU with 4GB of RAM and a 32GB SSD, which is fine for web browsing while streaming videos. But falls short for multitasking.

Despite the size, the keyboard provides a good typing experience with plenty of travel. The buttonless touchpad has the right amount of sensitivity for both two-finger scrolling and three-finger swipes. The touchscreen is equally as responsive.

On the left side are two USB 3 ports, a full-size HDMI port, and an SD card reader. And on the right is a combination headphone/microphone jack, charging status light and Noble Wedge security slot.

9. Acer Chromebook 15

Acer Chromebook 15 CB5-571-C1DZ (15.6-Inch Full HD IPS, 4GB RAM, 16GB SSD)
  • Intel Celeron 1.6 GHz
  • 4 GB DDR3L SDRAM
  • 16 GB Solid-State Drive
  • 15.6-Inch Screen, Intel HD Graphics
  • Chrome, 9-hour battery life

Last update on 2021-11-17 at 19:56 / Affiliate links / Images from Amazon Product Advertising API

Most Chromebooks have a screen size that’s smaller than 13-inches. But if you want one of the biggest screen sizes for a Chromebook on the market, Acer has you covered with the Chromebook 15. Battery runtime? A little over 9 hours.

You’re getting a big, sturdy aluminum frame for streaming video or looking at pictures. That’s thanks to a massive 15.6-inch display. It’s surrounded by a thick bezel and comes with a 1080p resolution. But while the screen is sharp, it’s also dim with an average brightness of 215 nits, which is less than the average brightness of 276 nits for a 15-inch laptop.

On tap is an Intel Quad-Core Pentium N4200 CPU, 4GB of RAM and a 32GB internal flash storage. It’s not the most power you can get on a Chromebook. But it is enough for simple tasks, like word processing, browsing the web and streaming videos.

Keyboard feel is a bit on the shallow side. But the touchpad responds to Chrome OS gesture like swiping with three finger to switch tabs and dragging three fingers down to show all open windows.

Don’t expect tons of ports. Despite a large size, due to the Chromebook nature of the device there’s only a USB Type-C port on each side and a USB 3.0 port, a Kensington lock slot, a microSD card slot and a headphone jack, that’s it. But considering that Chromebooks are used for simple web browsing and streaming, that’s not a bad list.

The 12.5-inch Asus Chromebook Flip C302CA is geared to run Android apps or dozens of Chrome tabs with a battery life of just under 9-hours. There’s a lot to like about this Chromebook, including an elegant aluminum design, sharp screen and strong performance all in a convertible form-factor.

It’s a premium Chromebook sporting a classy aluminum chassis. The 360-degree hinge feels stable and makes it easy to transitions the convertible from laptop to stand, tablet and tent modes. The Flip’s 1920×1080 panel is reinforced with Corning Gorilla Glass and provides bright and crisp images with solid brightness thanks to a panel that emits 292 nits of brightness with decent color reproduction.

This configuration packs an Intel Core M3-6y30 CPU, 4GB of RAM and a 64GB flash drive. It’ll provide more multitasking capability than similar systems supported by a lowly MediaTek MT8173C processor.

You can charge and connect peripherals either by its two USB Type-C ports, which sit on the left and right edges of the Chromebook. The headphone jack and microSD card reader can be found on the right. But the lack of Type-A 3.0 legacy ports means you’ll have to buy adapters if you want to attach older devices to your Chromebook.

The backlit, full-size, island-style keyboard offers an excellent typing experience. But it’s not the only source of input on the device. The screen tracks accurately and supports back and forward swiping for navigating the web in Chrome. And the buttonless touchpad enables precise navigation with solid feedback to each click.

Conclusion

Chromebooks have surged in popularity partly due to their budget friendly price. But a Chromebook needs to be more than just cheap for all the work we like to do with them. The good news is that no matter your needs or budget, there’s a Chromebook for you with a great battery runtime. As we said, for us the king of the hill in terms of battery life is the HP Chromebook x360 14 with an impressive runtime of just shy of 13 hours. Though with a battery life that’s not quite as long is our runner up, the Lenovo Chromebook Duet which also has a runtime of almost 13 hours. And last but certainly as impressive, is the Acer Chromebook Spin 713 with a battery life of just less than 12 hours.
