Or just plain bored?
Chill-out with these relaxing master pieces.
1. Candy Crush Saga
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, chances are you heard or even seen ads of the delicious looking game: Candy Crush Saga.
This online game is a fantastic way to unwind after a long day at work. Even the opening screen features rotating phrases such as “Escape the stress of today” to help kick start your relaxation session.
For millions of people around the world, sliding the gem-like candy to make matching sets can induce a calming state. But if you dislike looking at bright colors, this game may not be your best option.
Candy Crush Saga is available on both iOS and Android devices, with a freemium model of operation. This means you’ll get the game for free, but certain opportunities can be unlocked only if you purchase special upgrades.
If you’re looking for something more laid back, then the eerie, calming experience of Flow may be exactly what you need.
Here, you’ll start out as a tiny organism with only a mouth and a torso to your name. Then, you swim around in blue gloop eating up other tiny organisms to help you grow in size.
What you consume will often affect your creature. Whether it’s accelerated evolution or metamorphosis, one thing is for sure; in a matter of a few minutes your body will be longer, and you may even sprout legs or other appendages.
You’ll face some challenges as other creatures try to nibble bits off you too, but you can save your precious flesh with some diversionary tricks. Flow is lovely to play, and the simple design coupled with the calming music makes for an all-round relaxing time.
3. Home Sheep Home
If you’re familiar with the “Shaun the Sheep” animated series (seriously, if you’re not, you got some homework to do), then you’re in for a treat!
Home Sheep Home is a sweet puzzle game available for download from the “Shaun the Sheep” website. It comes with a fascinating physics engine that makes the game pretty easy to learn because everything feels smooth and natural.
You’ll start each level with 3 fully controllable sheep of different sizes: Timmy (small), Shaun (medium), and Shirley(large). Your objective is to figure out how to get them over to the barn on the right side of the screen using see-saws, steps, swings, ramps, switches, and other tools lying around.
As you progress in the game, you can expect the later levels to offer you some challenges. Nevertheless, the mixture of cute characters and casual style of play will have you hooked to Home Sheep Home in no time.
Available for both iOS and Android devices, Drop7 is a puzzle game that requires you to flip numbered circles into the correct order of rows and columns.
Drop7 does require a higher level of concentration than average monotonous games, but many people find this to be the exact reason why it’s so relaxing. The game simply takes your mind off the stress of the day.
In Casanova, you’re playing as a giraffe that’s trotting right while a procession of other giraffes trots left. Each of the giraffes approaching you has a neck of a different length.
All you need to do is click and hold the mouse button (yes, this is an online flash game) to extend your own neck so that both your heads meet for a sweet smooch!
The sole purpose of this game is to have your giraffe plant kisses on the lips of the other giraffes while collecting floating bonuses along the road. The adorable art and the 70s sitcom theme music playing in the background makes Casanova a wonderful game to wind down.
6. Plants vs. Zombies
A classic game that’s been around for years, Plants vs. Zombies can be a perfect getaway if you’re looking for a dose of fun mixed while chilling.
This game comes with a slight learning curve, but it offers a simple and effective guide to help new players understand the capabilities of the different plants and zombies.
Don’t worry though, the zombies in this game are nothing like the scary gross ones, they’re actually mostly clumsy! Chances are you’ll find “fighting” them with plants to be super enjoyable and satisfying.
Thanks to the added bits of wit and humor that you’ll encounter as you move through the game, Plants vs. Zombies can be equally entertaining as it is relaxing.
7. Drifting Afternoon
Drifting Afternoon is another masterpiece by Ferry Halim. As with the rest of this maestro’s work, this game is a joyful experience that looks more like a beautiful watercolor painting than a digital platform.
This game takes place on a breezy day where balloons are conveniently drifting around. Your goal is to have your puppy or kitten jump from balloon to balloon as they drift by and before the timer goes off.
You’ll score points for landing on balloons and bonus points if you jump over them. There are also special balloons that’ll boost up your time if you can land them.
Drifting Afternoon is a simple, laid back game with nothing too bright or too loud to disturb its calming vibes.
When it comes to relaxing online games, no one does it better than Bejeweled. The key to the huge success of this timeless classic is its simplicity.
This game is pretty straightforward – all you need to do is swap the positions of jewels to make uninterrupted sequences of 3, 4, or 5 identical gem shapes. These will then disappear and spawn replacements as the jewels above them drop into their previous places.
Of course, higher numbers will give you bigger bonuses and other cool surprises. It’s addictive stuff, but also stress-relieving.
9. Fireboy and Watergirl
Last but not least, Fireboy and Watergirl is a puzzle game that can get quite tricky, but the satisfaction of solving each level is so worth it!
The concept is pretty simple to figure out; you need to guide Fireboy (who hates water) and Watergirl (who hates fire) through the onscreen challenge until you get them both to their respective exits.
Be prepared for some switch operating, see-saw running, and box pushing. You should also expect to be dazzled by the game’s unique charm.
